No adult guides them toward reconciliation; these children simply figure out for themselves what is important. Various printmaking techniques are used in the artwork to create bold, flat shapes, with enough white space to allow the colors to pop off the pages. The illustrations, in a warm palette, give a retro feel to the story but the multicultural classroom takes the tale to the present. But when Mary's birthday merits queen-for-a-day treatment, Clare vents her jealousy by informing her pink-clad friend that "yellow is prettier." The argument explodes in double-page spreads that zoom close to the girls' furious profiles, culminating in a bitter outburst: "YOU ARE NOT MY FRIEND!" After time apart, a nap, and a birthday card lovingly crayoned in both girls' favorite colors, the children reestablish their "best best BEST" bond. Like Molly Bang's When Sophie Gets Angry--Really, Really Angry (1999), this shows children working through conflict without adult intervention, and the message is further buoyed by a cozy classroom backdrop that will prompt chatter about kids' own preschool routines. Good Book about Friendship and Envy

This is a great book for young preschoolers who are just learning to understand their feelings. It is very simple and straightforward and shows children that everyone feels jealous sometimes but a friend is a precious commodity.

I bought this book for my daughters Ella and Sarah because we enjoyed the authors other book, Ella Sarah get's dressed. Perfect story about true feelings young children experience. Great books to give as birthday presents.

Read it to your preschool child.

This is a perfect book for preschool and kindergarten children. Clare and Mary are best friends. They do everything together and love each other’s company. But, on Mary’s birthday she gets to be first in line, wear a golden birthday crown, and have a special cupcake. In a jealous moment, Clare is unkind to Mary and a fight ensues. The girls go their separate ways. After a while, Clare draws a birthday card for Mary and their friendship is repaired. When their parents come to take them home, the girls wave to each other and call, “See you tomorrow!”

The storyline is simple and relevant to children who attend day care or kindergarten and are venturing into a social world beyond their family. Each page has only a few words and the pictures are easy to understand.

Every child has squabbles with her best friend. This book will enable parents to discuss jealousy and hurtful remarks with their young child. It is important for children to understand that fights don’t have to be forever and there are ways you can repair a relationship.

The pictures are bright and simple collages with detailed patterns stamped on items of clothing with paint. With the simplest of lines and shapes, Chodos-Irvine portrays the girls’ happiness, anger, resentment, and acceptance.

It is easy to see why this charming little book is a Caldecott Honor Winner. Highly recommended.

About the Author

Linda Woodhead is Professor of Sociology of Religion at Lancaster University. Her research interests lie in the entanglements of religion, politics, and economy, both historically and in the contemporary world. Between 2007 and 2013 she directed the Religion and Society Programme http://www.religionandsociety.org.uk, the UK's largest ever research investment on religion. Her books include Religion and Change in Modern Britain, A Sociology of Religious Emotions, and The Spiritual Revolution: Why Religion is Giving Way to Spirituality.

Lot of Good Information but some Odd Statements

This is one of the stranger books about the Christian phenomenon I've read due to some of the characterizations that Woodhead makes. Some of the categories sound reasonable: "Church" Christianity, "Biblical" Christianity, "Monastic" Christianity and "Mystical" Christianity. As a Catholic, all these "forms" are nothing more than aspects of the one Faith.Overall, there's a lot of good information about manifestations of Christian belief and practice over two millennium that can be helpful to the uninitiated. Here is an example of an odd statement in my view: "The Holy Spirit is the presence of God in the World, a free floating power which 'blows where it wills' and can overwhelm and possess human beings ( as can evil spirits). This makes the Spirit a potentially dangerous and uncontrollable element for Church authorities." Read a little further and you get the point but I've never heard the Holy Spirit characterized in this way! There are a lot of statements like this that are not necessary wrong, just odd to this reviewer.

About the Author
Holly is a mom who writes books in her spare time: translation--she hides in the bathroom with her laptop and locks the door while the kids destroy the house and smear peanut butter on the walls. She was born in Utah but lived in Kansas until she was 13, in Texas until she was 18, and attended college in Hawaii--studying marine biology.� She's now back in Utah--"happy valley". She's married to a wonderful husband, James, and they are currently raising 6 rambunctious children. Holly Kelly Just Keeps Amazing!!

This series just keeps getting better! I fell in love with Rising and it became one of my favorite books. Next Holly came out with Descending and I was amazed that my love for the series was able to grow even more. Now I am just blown away with Avenging! Triton and Nicole's story has to be my favorite! This book offered even more twists and plot turns that left me reading late into the night. For those who are reading this and have not read any books in The Rising Series I suggest you go and check them out, and for those that have read them I am sure you will love where this book takes the story. I know that I will be "patiently waiting" (probably not) for the next book to be published! I just hope I don't have to wait too long!! I guess in the meantime I will have to reread the first three books and other great books that I can find to help pass the time.

I love this series

I received a free copy for my honest review. I love this series. At first I was skeptical being about mermaids but once I got into the first book of the series I was hooked. I love the way that Holly Kelly adds Greek mythology into the story line being as Greek mythology was one of my favorites as a child. I love how each new book has its own storyline, but the main story is still greatly entwined into it. Helping to develop a much richer mystery in this great new world of Holly Kelly's.

What a great story, it had romance,adventure,intrigue, Greek Gods, Hawaiian God's and sexy mermen. My only complaint is the cliffhanger but I look forward to the next story. What a great ending. If you haven't read her other stories in the series check them out, but you can still read this one before. them. An interesting paranormal idea

About the Author

Gwo-Hshiung Tzeng is a Distinguished Chair Professor�at Kainan University. He is editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Operations Research and the International Journal of Information Systems for Logistics and Management. He received a�PhD in management science from Osaka University. His�research interests include statistics, multivariate analysis, networks, routing and scheduling, multiple criteria decision making, fuzzy theory, hierarchical structure analysis for application to technology management, energy, environment, transportation systems, transportation investment, logistics, location, urban planning, tourism, technology management, electronic commerce, and global supply chains.

Jih-Jeng Huang is an assistant professor of computer science and information management at Soochow University, where he teaches research methods, multivariate analysis, and capital asset and pricing models. He received a PhD in information management from the National Taiwan University. His research interests include multiple criteria decision making, knowledge management, behavioral economics and finance, and data analysis. His work has been widely published�in journals and conference proceedings.

Wonderful Book

The translation of the business problem into a Data Mining problem is the key for successful data mining projects. Mr Pyle's book deals with this subject in a remarkable way. The book is organized in four parts. The first part provides an introductory material. It shows a broad view of the modelling and mining. This part allowed me to grasp the key concepts, connect them among themselves and have a "map of the territory" as Mr. Pyle says.
The second part shows many techniques for dealing with business situations and how to translate them into a data mining problem. Many of these topics were new for me and I was able to learn and apply a lot of these powerful methodology.
Part 3 is mainly about the data mining algorithms, different approach to solve data mining problems and how to improve the results. Although I knew about this subject, many topics are discussed in a very interesting point of view.
Finally, the part 4 provides a full interactive methodology which summarizes the previous parts. I have found this part very helpful in my work as business modeling consultant.
Summarizing, I think that this book is excellent and it would be read by anyone who wants to apply data analysis to the real world.

Using data to solve busines problems

A must have for any data miner that takes his profession seriously. Already a classic. Business modeling and data mining are carefully separated, as they should be. This crucial distinction has greatly enlightened my view on business problems. First discover the framework for the business problem, determine the leverage point, and then build and refine the best possible model.
All steps are described in practical detail, making the book extremely actionable, and tool independent. First, how to determine the appropriate problem to analyze? Then, what are the right data, and how do I get them? Only then does the data mining begin, and a groundbreaking, comprehensive methodology is put forward to come up with the best possible model in every circumstance. The business modeling and data mining methodologies explicate at every possible step in the process - what to do, and how to proceed. In addition, a lot of supporting material provides insight on topics like working with conditional probabilities, regression to the mean, visualizing model performance and errors in problem space, etc.
Mr. Pyle's previous book set the mark with regards to data preparation. This book is much broader in its scope and should actually be read before the previous one. It's pretty hefty, but more than worth the read. In my opinion it should also be mandatory for `data savvy' marketers as well, for instance as textbook in contemporary MBA courses.
