Very important read on Animal Rights

Uncaged: Top Activists Share Their Wisdom on Effective Farm Animal Advocacy is a must read for everyone, animal lover or not. I was especially taken by the section written by Dr. Charlotte Laws, PhD. Laws brilliantly points out that there can never be true consideration for nonhuman animals under a democracy that is only run for people, which excludes all living beings, namely animals. In an Omniocracy, a term she coined, nonhuman animals are constituents therein their interests are considered. As an animal lover who's been involved in animal rescue for the past twenty-eight years, I am thrilled to read what this author has to say in favor of setting up a government that shines a light on animal abuse and advocates to stop it. She gives examples how each of us can make a difference, in practical doable ways. I highly recommend this book to read what she and others who have written here have to say for the betterment of living in harmony and the ending of suffering to our animal brethren.

This book is an absolutely precious tool for any animal rights activist who wishes to make a difference for animals. It provides us with excellent advices from the best activists in order for us to truly make a difference at our own scale, using the right arguments and understanding our audience.

Thought provoking and an impetus for everyday action

This book is exceptional, and a serious contribution to the public dialogue about factory farming. I found it to be an amazing and well written strategy course for being an effective change agent that an experienced advocate or newcomer can benefit from. The thoughtful and compelling series of essays at the back in particular really serve to assist in putting the rest of the content in perspective, and in a candid, straightforward way move a reader to look beyond their peripheral vision. I especially appreciated being challenged by these closing essays to think outside the box in questioning some easy to make assumptions; and the sections on practical strategies and resources are a great help indeed.

A must for knowledge workers!

This book should be 'the bible' for everyone involved in knowledge management processes. Holland, as one of the complexity theory founders, decribes the essentials of how complex adaptive rules, in relation to the variability of the environment, determine knowledge dynamics and learning capabilities.
Key message of the book is the way that processes of induction, both cognitive and subcognitive, determine rule making, rule adaptation and environment modeling.
With this work Holland (et al.) was the first to close the gap between cognition, complex adaptive systems and knowledge processing. He also provides a sound computational base for the theories presented, opening possibilities for implementation of 'the induction theory' in real world applications.

Fills a huge void very well

This book fills the void for quality information on Armagnac very well. The book offers detailed information on the grapes, techniques, and region for the production of Armagnac generally as well as specifics about a very large percentage if not all of the producers of Armagnac. The only reason I gave this book four out of five stars is the production quality of some of the graphics and text describing them, is not top rate. Also if you are looking for a coffee table book this is probably not for you. This is a serious read and reference for enthusiasts of Armagnac. Highly recommended.

Outstanding resourse for any lover of brandy

Although this volume is dedicated to the appreciation of armagnac, it is the most informative single volume I've found on French brandy in general. Compared to the glossy photo-filled guidebooks on cognac, it might appear a bit crude with its black-and-white photos and idiosyncratic text. But it is packed with the kind of straightforward, unvarnished information about armagnac and cognac -- production techniques, additives, relative sales volume -- that is altogether missing from those prettier books, yet is absolutely essential for understanding the fundamental differences between these two wonderful brandies. Mr. Neal has an insider's knowledge (and strong opinions), but is generally evenhanded in his treatment of the relative merits of armagnac and cognac. His thumbnail reviews of a voluminous number of specific bottlings and vintages are an indispensible purchasing guide, even if many of them are (sadly) not available beyond the estates where they are distilled and bottled. Overall, an essential addition to the brandy-lover's library.

Gayle Wilson suspense novel

VICTIM is the kind of book you either like or not, the story reminded me, somewhat, of Tami Hoag's THIN RED LINE. A serial killer is released because the evidence was excluded because of a technicality. And the mom tried to kill the murderer.

Sarah Patterson has lived with the torture and death of her son Danny for three years. She has no confidence in the police or justice. She is proved right when a liberal judge throws out the evidence against the killer and releases him. She has come prepared with a gun and intends to take his life when he leaves the courthouse. As she aims the gun a detective tackles her and knocks her down, but not before she looks into a killer's eyes and tells him she is killing him for what he did to her son.

Mac Donovan is a detective, he has led the task force looking for the killer of young boys. When he sees Sarah draw her gun he tackles her, but since he agrees with her that an injustice has been done, he forces the cameraman to give up his tape and he destroys it. During his confrontation with the cameraman, Sarah picks up her gun and disappears. The TV station complains to his chief, and Mac protects Sarah, so his chief suspends him for four weeks.

Sarah has gone home where she finds a phone message from Tate, the serial killer, telling her that her son cried for her. When she goes to the police to report it they don't believe her, or rather they say they don't. Because they have lost Tate, and if he strikes again the people of New Orleans are sure to blame the police who let him get away.

Mac can't forget the woman who was determinded to get justice for her son, and Sarah needs someone to believe her. Circumstances bring these two togather and each feels the need to stop a killer from killing again. Sarah has been cold and dead inside for three yrs and now the chill of knowing he is free and able to hurt kids again, haunts her. Battling both the police and the need to find a killer draws two lonely people togather, and now it seems the killer has transfered his attention to the woman who tried to end his reign of terror.

I liked the story, the print was a nice size, and I felt it was worth the money. A good read. Just enough romance and a well told tale.

What a story! Ms. Wilson is a very talented author! The story had action, intrigue, suspense, romance all in the same story! When Tate got into the apartment, it was so scary, & when Sarah found Mac, oh my goodness! Didn't know if he was going to make it! Really enjoyed this book!

Her writing is always good--have every book she has ever written. This one is a cliff-hanger, and should be enjoyable to read for almost everyone who likes the genre.
